Use this URL: http://www.projo.com/news/content/5K_RUNNER_DIES_09-21-10_ATJVT6U_v8.216c770.html Why is this newsworthy?
This article is newsworthy because of the concern that it may cause in the future. The next time there is a race in New England, people may be nervous to sign up after this man's death, and the road races will most likely lose support, donations, and participants.
I agree with Ryan, most people might be nervous to sign up. But, It will also raise awareness to make sure you're fully healthy and well rested before you prticipate.
This is newsworthy because it's something that people care about.A man was confirmed dead after he was racing for a good cause.Nobody ever wants that to happen. So its newsworthy because it may concern other people.
This article is very newsworthy because this particular article talks about a tragic event that happened recently. I think that people will think twice after reading this before running a race. All partcipants should be in good physical condition if they want to run and perform well in such events.
This article is newsworthy. A man collapsed and died after running in a CVS Caremark Downtown 5K road race. It really makes you wonder what road races will be like in the future.
This is news worthy because people like to hear about tragedy. this was a bad incedint that happened and now it brings more attention to races and safety to the runners that are in the race.
The article was not very informing and did not give a lot of information about what caused the mans death. This article is newsworthy because it shows a story of a local mans tragic death. Also it is newsworthy because it raises concern for those running the races to stay hydrated and take all precautions necessary to stay safe while running these races.
This article is newsworthy because it was an awful tragedy and when someone sees ths as a headline they will immeadiatly want to read it. That mey sound wrong and horrible but it is also true. It also might cause lots of distress in the future because if it happens to one person it could happen to asnother. Another reason it is newsworthy is that in the future they may need an extensive physical check up before they run.
I agree with Ryan because people wont be as fast to sign up like before. This article is newsworthy because its a news article that talks about important things that we all want to know more about!
This article is newsworthy because it tells the story of a tragic unexpected death in a local area. People like to read about such events to learn about safety and precausions. Although I don't understand by Ryan said that people would be nervous to sign up after the death. This is because it wasn't the races fault. He had some sort of unpredictable health issue that wasn't due to running the marathon therefor people shouldn't be hesitant to sign up.
This is newsworthy because its a local story and is about someones death. When people around the state see that someone died in the race in Providence, they could think, "Hey I know someone who participated in the race", and get scared for that person and read the article. Also, people could wonder how it happened. That is why this is a newsworthy story
This article is newsworthy because it deals with a tragic death. Though there wasn't much information released and the man who died wasn't well known, it may cause problems in the future. Many participants and people who were planning on running in a future race may become frightened.
this articles newsworthy because this is an event that happened recently. Also, that injury/death doesnt seem to happen often, the CVS people and other could be concerned that it will happen again.
Sarah, people would be nervous to sign up even if they just saw the headline because they would think that it may be unsafe. Although it is not the races fault, people would suspect that the person who died thought that he was in top physical condition, but then could not handle the physical effort.
this article is newsworthy because it is local and current and it was sucha tragedy. this man was only 29 and he was only doing good for other people and it caused him his life instead. the cross country team was there that day and none of us knew anything about it until we read it or heard about on the internet or news stations. such a tragedy to an innocent man.
This article is newsworthy because it is a tragic thing that happened at a very popular event. It can come to a shock to some people that a man died from the race and so people will want to hear about it. The CVS 5k has its fair share of publicity and because of this, journalists know that they will want to hear about it even more.
This article is news worthy, because it is a current event that a majority of people would care to read about. I agree with Caley Rem..what will road races be like in the future...
Ryan, I understand what you mean. The way you worded your statement made me misunderstand. I thought you meant they'd be afraid the race itself was unsafe when I think you meant maybe they mis diagnosed and said he was healthy enough to race and that they'd make the same mistake again.
Andrew veiga I am forced to question the comment that caleyrem25 has said. I really dont understand what this has to do with future races? It was one person that was effected it had nothing to do with the race itself.
ya i agree with sarah i thought the same thing but just like many people were asking how did he die and why wont they share. I think that maybe had a health problem, maybe was dehighdrated(SP?). But just like sarah i dont understand why they wouldnt want to sign up after that. This guy knew the risks and didnt listen.
This is a very sad story, it is something that just didnt need to happen. It's too bad that a young man who has a family and friends and seemingly was a good person in the community. I agree with Andrew Veiga on Caley's comment, can you be perhaps a bit more clear by what you mean?
Andre, because somebody died during the race, even if it wasn't the people who manage the race's fault, the reputation of the race would still be hampered. It is not often that we hear somebody lost their life in a road race, and people would be nervous for their own safety and the safety of their loved ones who may want to participate.
This article is newsworthy because it talks about a death that I'm sure was very dear to many people. It also goes to show that even if a company says that a runner's safety is first in their mind, it is not true. Although this is true, the article doesn't say how the runner died. This is why I agree with madie. This is because the runner could have run out of water, it could have been a physical problem, who knows? This is why I think this article is newsworthy.
This article is newsworthy because it concerns the death of a young man. Imagine standing at the finish line of a 5K race in providence, and suddenly a runner collapses and dies. You would want to find out what happened, and others who weren't at this scene would want to know what happened. I also agree with Andrew in confusion of Caley's statement..because the death didn't have anything to do with the race itself, so the comment didn't really relate to the article.
This article is newsworthy because that is sad and tragic that someone randomly died finishing a 5k race. The cvs 5k race has been going on for many years and is a very popular thing, and it's random that someone died right after finishing it. It's sad, but as some other people said it wasn't a lot of information about it. Most of the information about the runner and the event could not be "disclosed", so maybe the writer should have waited a little more time to get more information, when the info was allowed to be put out or something. but it is newsoworthy because this is something people like to hear about. it's something that happened at a popular event, and right in the heart of RI, in Providence.
I agree with caley about the future races.. nobody knows what will happen. So it could stop people from signing up. Cmkimball were you being sarcastic?
i think this article is newsworthy because it was very random for that to happen. it makes me question how can some one die from a race.WOW!you just dont now what to expect in life things just hit you and alot of the times you will never see it coming which is scarry.

ReplyDeleteThis article is newsworthy. It shows u what can happen and allows you to know what you should do before running a race and how to prepare yourself.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ryan and Tyge. If you are not in physical condition to run a 5K race, then you shouldn't do so.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Ryan, many people may not be willing to sign up for the race anymore because of what happened.
ReplyDeletethis article is newsworthy because it is local and current and it was sucha tragedy. this man was only 29 and he was only doing good for other people and it caused him his life instead. the cross country team was there that day and none of us knew anything about it until we read it or heard about on the internet or news stations. such a tragedy to an innocent man.

ReplyDeletealso i think that people might still want to sign up. just be more careful. I think that of what happend is going to make people learn from this.

ReplyDeleteTo clarify my comment.. I mean, will people be more catious before running in a race, knowing what happened to somebody else?
