What are qualities of the "Writer of the Month" article?

  1. this is a good article because it's definitely aimed at the reader, and the reader is the students, or kids that are the same age as the writer. it's interesting to read, it's not just boring same old articles that you read everyday about the same things. It's and interesting piece on a specific person, it has quotes and other peoples opinoins on the topic or person, and it has the writers opinin as well. It's not all serious, most of it is jokes and sarcastic humor, which is what kids our age like to read and understand, and relate to best.

  2. Matthew Mennucci is one of the best staff members in the history of the lions roar. So the qualities that he must have are deteramation, working good under pressure, and finnily humor. These three things are contridutated(sp?) to becoming the writer of the month.

  5. The Writer of the Month article is directed at the students of lincoln high school to try and give the students a level of appreciation for some of the hard workers on the Lion's Roar Staff. Our school newspaper is an intergral part of the school, just like the students, teachers, and sports teams are. The Lion's Roar is Lincoln High School. For this reason, it is important for us to show respect and appreciation to all of the students who work hard to give us this part of Lincoln High School.

According to Mr. Tom Carrol, a good writer is a person who has the ability to captivate the masses through their writing. In order to be able to hang with the big dogs, it takes a lot of time and effort and i believe Matt Mennucci fits this criteria.

  7. This article is well written and grabs the readers attention early with a strong introduction. It describes the reader of the month and tells about his hard work to become the writer of the month. This article showed humor, a story, and information that was presented very well.

  8. The Writer of the Month article is very humorous and isn't nearly as formal as somebody would expect from an article of this type. I really liked how there were quotes from other people relating to Matt Menucci instead of there being either no quotes or Matt taking about himself. Much like Andrew said, the article really focuses on how he worked hard and contributed to the paper.

  9. I noticed the article had personality and humor. I found a grammatical error when Carroll write, "This year, Mennucci was named one of The Lion's Roar's four Editor-in-Cheifs along with Justin Bradbury, Rebecca Remillard, and me" while the last two words should say "and I" which makes it look unprofessional and a lack of editing. Another mistake I cought was he messed up where it says "Mennucci published a number of pieces in our past issue and was involved THE IN THE layout and photos of a mojority of the sections" but over all it was written well and I appreciated the fine humor.

  12. I think this article is really good because it captures Matt as a person without boring the reader. It isn't hard to read because Tom is a student like the rest of us so he knows what we like & don't like so he knows how to keep it interesting. I also think it was a good article because it talks about how although matt is like the rest of us, he has a goal & strived for it until he achieved it. This is why I think this article was well written & captivating.

  14. I agree with Sarah when she says that it is written with a humor that is likable for a high school reader. Although it had spelling mistakes, it did show that it was unprofessional but at the same time, I doubt most high school students have caught this, or if they did, I doubt they cared.

  15. Sarah, there are multiple errors in each article of the Lion's Roar, as I have also noticed, but the reader's shouldn't focus on the grammatical errors, just the overall idea and writing in the article. If we all focused on how Chris Hayden's quote was recorded as "Hell of writer" instead of "Hell of A writer", then we would never be satisfied with out newspaper. Some of these grammatical errors could also be used to save a word or two so they can be used later.

  20. By far the best quality in the article is the humor. By the first sentence you’re captured by the writer’s use of humor. And throughout the article the writer continues the humorous approach on the feature, so you don’t lose interest .Another good quality is how the writer included different perspectives. He added quotes from other students at Lincoln High to get there point of view or opinion as well. It’s obvious that a tremendous amount of effort was put into this piece.
