This is a good editorial cartoon because it is simple but at the same time very symbolic. Although it could get more complicated than this, the cartoonist is being blunt with their message, "America died."

  3. What you see in editorial cartoons are usually the artist (or the author or whatever) trying to make a joke of, or make fun of, or ridicule (humorously) something that is a big deal and supposed to be serious. They could be trying to make light of the situation, or usually it's them trying to say that something more needs to be done to take care of the situation they are ridiculing.

This editorial cartoon is about the oil spill in the gulf, it's supposed to be a post card maybe from someone on vacation there, because it's supposed to be a beautiful place, but it's now a wreckage and a huge mess because of the enormous amounts of oil that spilled into the water, contaminating it, because of BP oil company.

This is a good editorial cartoon about gay marriage because it has now become legal for them to get married in California. It's symbolic & simple so it gets right to the point and it is easily understood.

  14. I agree with Marissa. Editorials are supposed to be funny. They are also usually controversal and are mostly about the people's views.

This editorial cartoon is about global warming. It shows polar bears in bikinis at the north pole sun bathing on lawn chairs, and in the background seals are playing beach volley ball. A couple people are watching the animals and find it hard to believe that global warming doesn't exist. This is a great example of an editorial cartoon. It is appealing to the viewer because it is so unusual. It is also catchy and clever, with a funny twist to it that amuzes the viewer.

  17. My actual cartoon that I found was about a scary halloween costume idea. You can go to my link to see it but it is a boy dressed up as a bomb that is slowly beginning to detonate and he is telling the person that he is a 401 K savings.

a good editotial should include a stance against something going on in the world that brings up two points.

  27. http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/bl-political-cartoons.htm?PS=621%3A2

This editorial is aiming mostly at politics, and our country in general. It's making a statement about the people in office, and the citizens of our country. The people in office promise all these things, or say we can do all these things, (as you see the sign,"Yes We Can!") but then they usually dont happen, or they take a large span of time to be put into action. (as you see the sign "But We Probably Wont"). Our country is lazy, and people care about the most poitless, aimless things or situations, rather than whats going on inside and out of our country.

My cartoon is about airport security. Its pretty funny and gets the point across about how airport security isn't as strong as it should be. I'd say that what makes a good editorial is a strong opinion. You have to be willing to break some hearts and step on some fingers to get the point across

I thought this was a good cartoon because it showed the problems that many Americans are facing and what is happening in our struggling nation.
Some essentials to political cartoons are to portray an important event and to ridicule and make fun of it. Creators of these cartoons have to make the story seem lighter or gentler with humor, but what they have to get across is the actual problem going on.

  37. Although editorials are funny, they have certain clues and hints snuck in that you need to look closely to understand or notice. Even though the articles are funny usually, they are about shedding light on a person, group, or scandal. In my opinion, the editorial cartoon is the best way to do so.

  38. I found one about the Chinese man that won the Nobel Peace Prize while in jail. This works because it takes a controversial topic and pokes fun at it. I think something like this works because it makes fun of sensitive topics and you can get your point across at the same time.
