The most controversial story was the story about birth control for elementary school students, This is because if it affects elementary school students, the scope of the story is instantly multiplied. From the students to their parents and grandparents, the scope grows. It also proves that we are generally a sex-oriented society.
I think that the birth control article was most controversial because that type of subject pertains to our age group, but actually slightly older then us. I think that it deals with teenagers and how they can prevent the pregnancy rate. This deals with every teenager in the country.
I think that the most contriversial article is the one about middle schools giving birth control stuff. Scope is important in this article because it could affect middle schools and students throughout the country
The article about the mosque is very controversial because it is next to ground zero. Certain people believe it should be built and others do not. Even though the group of terrorists happened to be muslim, it does not mean we have the right to discriminate against that religion. The U.S. is supposed to be a place of religous freedom, and there is a controversy about building a mosque. There would be no issue if it was a church being built. I find this to be a double standard
I believe that the most controversial article is the middle school giving out birth control. Scope is important to this article because it could affect anyone who recieves the condoms.
I think that gay marriage is the biggest controversy because there are alot of gay people that want to be married and have a committed life together and then they are told that they cant/ shouldn't be together by the law and other non-beleivers. Alot of people are against gay marriage because they feel marriage should be between a man and a women and that being gay is wrong. this affects alot of people around the world and is definatly newsworthy.
its bascly telling the kids in middle school, that it is ok as long as your protected, we shouldnt have to be giving middle school students birh control.
i think the most controversial one is the one that talks about how the middle schools are going to be giving kids without parental consent are going to be able to receive birth control. i think this is the most controversial because children should not be doing these kinds of things. they are too young and i dont agree with them being able to get birth control at school. it should be their parents responisbility to get them on whatevhey want to get them on.
@ryan connor: its not elementary students its middle schoolers. if it was elementary students, the entire nation would be shocked because that is just wrong at so many levels
I think the article about the United States wanting broader internet wiretap authority is very controversial. This is because they want to invade our privacy and look at even more at what we access on the internet. This would affect the whole country and many people will want to oppose to this. People like their privacy and this would create a big uproar in the country.
I also agree with tyge though. There has been a lot of teen pregancys in the past few years. There finding away to prevent it. People may think its dumb and others may think its very smart.
I think the most controversy article is the one about birth control because this is a serious matter with teens and preteens. Why would officers hand out birth control to the middle schoolers? If this is true..this is really disgusting.
Also i think the birth control topic is controversial too. There are too many teenagers getting pregnant. But when the teens get pregnant the town and country blame it on the drugs and parents. Maybe if the kid used a condom there wouldnt be a problem
D. Lambert, another reason why the article is controversial is if we wonder what would happen if it was a Church or a Temple. Then, it would either be built without argument or would be stopped from being built, like the Mosque, but I think that the Christian or Jewish officials would just accept why the government said no instead of saying that it is discrimination.
I think Birth control is the most controversial topic discussed today because its affects people around our age. When the topic was brought up, the whole classroom when into a uproar. There are many different sides to this particular topic, especially with kids our age.
I think because of the wide range of contreversies that some are more newsworthy in different areas. The one I have heard a lot about recently is the Mosque on ground zero. I think that people should not look at this and think that the muslim people hate us and cause us lots of problems so they should be allowed to have the mosque. It was a terrorist group that caused us problems not the muslims so people who are prejudiced against them should just let go of this issue.
i think the most contriversial topic is the one about girls getting birth control in middle school. This is newsworthy because kids at this age should not even think about using it. This affects all middle schools around the nation.
I do agree that there have been more pregancys in the past years but i feel if they were going to be handing these things out middle school is too young. they should at least be in high school.
I agree with Andrew Veiga. The guy has a WIFE and changed his phone number because of teenage girls calling him, he clearly does not care about creeping on teenage girls and does not want to be a "squeaky-voiced Canadian" like Andrew said.
living in the society we live in we have to think about this kind of stuff as much aswe dont want to. it shows what kind of nation we are and it affects everyone everywhere. children shouldnt be doing this. if they decide to have sex then they will be responisble for whatever consequences might happen. schools should not be responisble for providing protection or birth control. it should be the parents
I just realized that the birth control issue was based towards people a little bit younger then us. People younger then High School students are sexually active, after hearing that article.
I think the most controversial news is the one about the man getting sentenced to five years in prison for growing 125 marijuana plants. Many people believe that marijuana should be legalized for economic and medical reasons. This article will lead to further debates that include a variety of people because people have many views/opinions. Since the man got arrested for doing something that is considered illegal in this country, it may cause those who believe that it should be legalized to take action and fight to make marijuana legal.
I think the most newsworthy controversy is abortion rights and the iraq war. Abortion rights are a major controversial topic, because every woman should have the right to chose what to do with her own body, but then someone else might go against that and say its not right to kill a baby and not give it a chance at life. I agree with both of these sides, i think abortion is sad, and that its a better idea maybe just to have the baby and then give it up for adoption, but that is even harder than an abortion, because once you have the baby and see it you get attached, knowing its yours, and its hard to give it away to someone else. But at the same time, i know if i was pregnant, especially if i was still this age, i would want the option of abortion and i would probably chose to go in that direction. I also think the iraq war is a good topic because there is controversy about our troops still being there, and them coming home. In my opinoin i think they should have came home years ago, its getting ridiculous now and there's not reason for them to stil be there, and in my opinoin another country isnt our problem. But someone else might say that if we dont stay there they would attack us again.
I think ryan conner makes a good point. If it was a church, temple, or other place of worship it may receive the same scrutany as the mosque, but I think it would be treated more lightly.
i think the most controversy is the one about kicking the man off facebook because his name is "justin beiber" like are you serouse? that really caught my attention.. becuase everyone could have the same names i now to people in this school who have the same first name and last name.. but should they not get but in the same classes because of confusion thats how dumb that article was about the facebook thing. if they think of suspition they should investage in it first before they act on it
The most important controversy discussed was the one about building a mosque at ground zero. This is because it involves the entire world, and not only America.
I think the most controversal subject is the one about birth control. This is because it kind of related to an abortion subject; "pro-life" "pro-choice'. I think it is up to the individual person if they want to be on birth control or not. Just because someone is on "the pill" doesn't mean that they are having sex. There are many other reasons and therefore no one should have a say in it except for the person taking it.
Ryan, what I meant to say is it would be treated alot differently. If it was a christian church or temple it most likely wouldn't be a controversial topic at all.
CSanches, not to mention that this guy's name was Justin Bieber BEFORE the new Justin Bieber was even born. This was about 19 years before squeaky-voiced Justin Bieber was even born.
I agree with Jessica, middle school students should not be exposed at such a young age. It's controversial because there have been many teen pregnancies in the past and I think it's because of the things we are exposed to.
Jonathon, but the question is if it wouldn't be controversial because it would be allowed without any thought, or if it would be denied and everyone would move on.
I agree with Devin that the most controversial one is the mosque being built near ground zero. Both sides have great points in this arguement and I will stay objective and not give my opinion. This will be a very large decision when all is said and done, and depending on the decision, relations between certain peoples may become even more terrible than they may be

ReplyDeleteMiddle School Students*
ReplyDeletethe most controversial article was the one about the muslim place of worship at ground zero
ReplyDeleteThe birthcontrol article because it makes two points argue over the same topic.
ReplyDeleteI think the most controversial topic is legalizing marijuana. Theres been controversy between the government and people for years now.
ReplyDeleteAndrew Veiga
ReplyDeleteJUSTIN BIEBER SHOULD BE ALLOWED ON FACEBOOK. Its not his fault some squeaky-voiced Canadian took his name.

ReplyDeleteI agree with devin that the double standard is a very controversial part of the story.

ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Andrew, it's not his fault that he has Justin Bieber as his name.
ReplyDeletei know that justin bieber is his name, but i think that its a little stupid to kick him out just for that
ReplyDeletei agree with Ryan Connor.
ReplyDeletethe article about the justin bieber guy is also verry controversial because there should have been a trial about it.
ReplyDeletei think the most contriversial topic is the one about girls getting birth control in middle school. This is newsworthy because kids at this age should not even think about using it. This affects all middle schools around the nation.

ReplyDeletei agree with andrew veiga. the justin beiber article is pretty amazing but it isn't as contrivorsial as the birth control one
ReplyDeleteI agree with Andrew Veiga. The guy has a WIFE and changed his phone number because of teenage girls calling him, he clearly does not care about creeping on teenage girls and does not want to be a "squeaky-voiced Canadian" like Andrew said.

ReplyDeleteI agree with jon because putting a mosque next to ground zero is very contriversial.
ReplyDeleteThat is true RYAN CONNOR. Good point.
ReplyDeleteI think ryan conner makes a good point. If it was a church, temple, or other place of worship it may receive the same scrutany as the mosque, but I think it would be treated more lightly.
ReplyDeleteJonathon, I don't think you would say the same thing if it was a Christian church or Jewish Temple.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cronan, Meredith, and Ryan Connor.
ReplyDeletein this day in age we dont talk about sex and ways to prevent it as much as we should. i think its a good idea and a bad idea in some ways.
ReplyDeletei agree with the Mosque on ground zero as well, and what xinrui said about marijuana, although i dont think marijuana should be legalized.
ReplyDeleteGood Point.
ReplyDeletethat is pretty creepy why people think this guy is justin bieber when he changed his name and phone number.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tyge agreeing with Cronan, Meredith, and Ryan Connor.
ReplyDeletei agree with michael, if facebook had his name like that before justin bieber became really famous, and they didnt care, its wrong to do that.
ReplyDeletei think the most controversy is the one about kicking the man off facebook because his name is "justin beiber" like are you serouse? that really caught my attention.. becuase everyone could have the same names i now to people in this school who have the same first name and last name.. but should they not get but in the same classes because of confusion thats how dumb that article was about the facebook thing. if they think of suspition they should investage in it first before they act on it
