people want to read about things that directly effect their own lives. For example if something took place in lincoln that is big news, people in lincoln will be more interested in that rather than a big story in Califonia.
It seems today that people want to read about things that encompass them or have to do with other people's misery. For instacne, one of the biggest things on Yahoo World News is the bombing and ensuing new World War that could break out at any second between N. and S. Korea.
People want to read about things that either benefit them, or relate to them in some way, most of the time. Some of the time people want to hear stories about things that dont relate to them in any way, just because its different.
People want to read about what happens in everyday life and how it affects them personally. Also i agree with ryan on that they want to read about controversies.
A lot of popular news stories have to do with celebrities and politics. People like to read about celebrities for controversies and to see what it is like in "the good life" as some call it. Politics are popular to read about because politics has an effect on all people and they want to know what is going to change in their lives.
People want to read about controversies, celebrities, polotics, unusual topics, government events and laws, and events that are happening close to them or really far away.
People differ on want people want to read. Someone might want to read something that may be from the local area, Celebrities, HOme inporvement. Tales of survival, Death and many other stuff. It all depends on the taste of the reader
People like anything that has war and violence, even if its ugly. When they see articles like "Car Bomb slaughters 50 in Iraq", they are likely to read it. To them, its like watching a horror movie
I say that anything having to do with world events are a big deal. Also any historical mysteries that are solved are also welcomed on the part of readers.
Zach, it is not to do with other peoples's misery. South Korea has been a long time ally to the U.S. and North Korea has been a threat for a long time. This is a throwback to the Korean War, when North Korea attacked the south about sixty years ago.
Also people will read topics that they are interested in. If sombody is very interested in sports and a big scientiific discovery is found, that person will be more attracted to a sports article.
I agree with ryan. People like to read about other peoples successes and want to know what their lives are like. Another people are attracted to are the negative things that occur. Anything that has do with crime, war, or the mistakes of someone attract people's attention and people want to read about them.
People like to read about things that are happening now and things that are extravagent. I couldn't agree more with Devin on Yahoo because that is the site I use for my email and everytime I go to Yahoo, the articles they have are always up to date and are interesting.
Jerzy, I think the reason people want to read good stuff but love the bad stuff is because there is so much violence in the world that people can only find tragic stories but crave feel-good success stories due to the overload of bad news.
A decent amount of people also want to hear about celebrities and the things that they do. Some people can be obsessed with the lives of famous people and always want to read articles about them.
I personally will read about anything that tells a good story, and basically bags on someone else. Those are the best stories in my oppinion, because there never boring, and you always learn something
I agree with Andrew VEIGA. Everyone basically said that people like to read about either controversies, politics, sports, war and violence, and celebrities depending on their taste.
However, people also like those "feel-good" stories like when a kid with a disabilities or a disease or a cute pupppy ends up a hero by saving peoples lives or somthing
What people want to read about are unimportant things, like drama and celebrity gossip and irrelevant to the world around us. People want to read about things that spark their interest. Some people like to read about world wide news, but most people like to know whats going on closer to home, or their home town.
people also like to read about new and upcoming things like new technology or a new brand of clothing and they also like to read about their favorite teams.

i agree with ryan agreeing with Veiga, those are the main topics that interest people and pretty much anything not along those lines is usually not big news.
The ocassional feel-good story is also a good topic that people want to hear about. A story like this can lift a person's feelings and it shows the good side of life.
On the contrary, people do not care about boring stuff like a cat in a tree. They want to hear about bombings and wars because people in this world are just naturally sick.
Also agree with marissa (walsh) on the fact that people love to read about celebrities and gossip, and tabloids and everything the paparazzi gets news on.
People want to read things that have something to do with their life. They do not want to hear about things that they cannot relate to, because it will not interest them.
I agree with marissa. Although things can be intersting from history, it is not generally important to most people. Although this is true, both recent and historical news could influence a peron's life.
