Why is this newsworthy? Do you think it is lawful?
This is not lawful because the government broke the law of entrapment. However, if the people would have followed the law in the first place, it wouldn't have had to be like this.
That is so awesome. Thats such a smart idea because we all know that these people would never show up for court so this was the only way to get them to show up. This is lawful because how else are they supposed to get them to cooperate.
I think this was lawful as long as the criminals were guilty. The cops need to catch the criminals in some way. I think its better than breaking into the person's house because they will lose more money, and they could have families who could be affected if their houses are damaged. That is why this is lawful.
No truer words have been spoken Sir Lambert. I concur because even though it basically violated somewhat of the fugitives privacy and tricked them, they would not have to have been handcuffed if they followed the laws that had been set out. I don't blame the police for capturing the criminals.
I think this is extremely unlawful! It is sort of like that show where these people pretend to be teens on chatrooms and when thay catch a pedophile they film them and arrest them. It is embarrasing as it is but gettigthem on camera just makes it worse. However, if you agree to be in a movie then i suppose they can't plead invasion of privacy
This is a clever way of catching these fugitives and I do not believe there is anything unlawful about it. The police tricked them into thinking they were going to be playing extras in a movie shooting. These men were fugitives because they were fleeing from the law, so this was a very clever way to lead them out and into their arrest.
This is important because these are people who have not paid the consequence for their actions and it is not fair that tthey havent. People would want to know about this so that it makes our society and community safer for someone to live in with people being taken away by the law for their wrong doings. I think it was a clever idea that they sent these letters out to get them into one place by telling them they would be in a movie. The other fugitives in the country would want to here about this so that if they ever got a letter, they know not to go. But other law abiding citizens of society would want to hear about this so they know there is justice being served and that our community is now that much safer.
I do think this is legal because the people were INVITED to go and they had the choice to enter the building to partake in the "casting call." This is newsworthy because people love to hear things like this, a comedic act against criminals.
This is newsworthy because it involves consequence. If these certain fugitives had not broken the law in the first place, then they wouldnt have to pay the consquence of being busted and having to spend time in jail. If you dont appear in court, the governemt will still find you and you will be arrested..This also involves human interest. Many people would be interested in this story because of the unique way they caught and trapped the fugitives.
this article is newsworthy because it keeps us informed of what is going on in the world. Also it's about the government breaking the law, which i personally believe is an important topic considering they are supposed to be upholding the law.
i dont think that what the government did was lawful. even though these people didnt follow the law, what makes it right for the government to break one, even if it is to catch those people?
This is newsworthy because it shows us that people are doing wrong and not showing up in court when they are supposed to. This happens alot when people dont show up and it is a big deal because the y have commited crimes and they are not responsible enough to take care of it. This is lawful because if people dont show up for their dates in court then they should be arrested.
This is newsworthy because it is around where we live and some people could relate this idea. I think that this is a very smart idea and its funny how they actually went and not thought that it was a trick.
It was very clever though in someways Meredith because although they did trick them and throw their names out into a motion picture without them, these people that they are referring to are citizens that have not lived in a civilized manner and have broken the law.
I agree with what Devin said. It was unlawful for the police to trick the fugitives into thinking they were choosen for a part in a motion picture, when they were really getting arrested.
I think that this i borderline lawful. This is because it is unlawful to lead people in but on the other side, it was wrong for them to be a fugitive so it could be considered both lawful and unlawful based on which offence you think is worse.
I agree with Michael, had they been forced to show up to the Dunkin Donuts Center then that would have been violating the law. So what if they lied to get them there.
If people did not break the law and try to hide from it then these contreversal things would not happen. Even if the government did do something unlawful, they did it to catch criminals that needed to be caught.
This is lawful, but it is also unhumane. They invited these people to go meet to be casted in a movie, basically giving them the chance of a lifetime. But only to be arrested once they got to the place. I feel awful for these people considering they were probably desperate for money and instead were arrested for a mistake they made.
This is newsworthy because it does not happen very often. I think this is lawful because the fugitives chose to attend the even. It is not entrapment because the people already committed a crime already.
This is very newsworthy because it creates a controversy of whether or not this was a lawful act. They tricked people into coming and so some could see this violating the law of entrapment.
These people are idiots for actually believing that they were going to be an extra in a movie.. Im not even sure if they hand out letters to be extras..
This isn't clever. They got the idea from a tv show where they catch pedophiles on chatrooms. This method, however unethical it may be, has been used before.
This is also a very rare occurence that the government would arrest all of these fugitives, I think that the government sometimes lets these people off too easy and this time i believe they got what they deserved.
I agree with Mike, this was a very clever way to catch the criminals. If they had not done this then the fugitives would still be on the loose. I think it had to be done, but it was pretty mean.
I agree with Veiga. I do not think they just hand out invitations to be extras, so the fugitives should have been suspicious, especially since they were wanted and had warrents for their arrest. It is a very contreversal topic.
Not really Meredith because like Jerzy had wonderfully explained, these people had the choice to show up at the Dunkin Donuts Center in order to be apart of the motion picture. This cannot be unlawful because the police should be able to use all of the resources that it may have in it's power in order to catch ample amount of felons.
This article was pretty funny how the US government would bust all of these fugitives in such a short time. They probably would not have shown up to their court cases and this idea should be very effective.
This article is newsworthy because it is important that these people are caught. They did the crime so now they have to do the time! Although it is important that the fugitives are caught, I do not think that the way the police did it was laweful. They tricked them and should have figured out a better way to handle it.
i agree with merideth, i think its unlawful but i think it's a clever idea at the same time, because it would be a different story if these people that got the letter did nothing wrong, but they did, and they should pay for their actions.
ok michaela like im sorry i just threw my two cents which is the point of the blog. Im sorry we dont see eye to eye but there is no reason to critisize me.
Caley, WHO CARES! THEY COULD GET ARRESTED ANYWHERE! IT DOES NOT MATTER! They can get arrested at a coffee shop, a mall, a theater, a sports event. So it does not matter.
I agree with mike, it was a clever way to catch them. Unfortunately, I do not agree with it still. They tricked them and honestly I think it was unprofessional.
I also think the people who got the letter are a little gullable and naive, who would believe that an agency somehow found out who they are out of the 6 billion other people in the world and picked THEM at random to be in a new movie....that just doesn't happen. it definitely is too good to be true.
i can see how i would be mad if it was me who did something wrong and who got the letter, showed up with high hopes and got let down with the option of either being arrested or paying bail, but it is fair, and it is the law to abide by
I also agree with chris. This is because it is very newsworthy. I read the article for part of my inverted pyramid, and the article was just okay. I graded as a B I think. That is because I don't think it listed all the 5 W's & H or it did not do it immediately.
first! devin :P

ReplyDeleteThis isn't lawful because they tricked everybody to being in a "motion picture" but they were really arresting them.

ReplyDeleteDevin, this actually does not break the law of entrapment because they were invited and they willingly went to the Dunkin' Donut Center.
ReplyDeleteThis is important because these are people who have not paid the consequence for their actions and it is not fair that tthey havent. ReplyDeleteI disagree with Jersey. They didn't do it to be funny they did it to catch them

ReplyDeleteI agree with what Devin said. It was unlawful for the police to trick the fugitives into thinking they were choosen for a part in a motion picture, when they were really getting arrested.
ReplyDeleteMike is right there was no breaking of the law of entrapment
ReplyDeleteI think that this i borderline lawful. This is because it is unlawful to lead people in but on the other side, it was wrong for them to be a fugitive so it could be considered both lawful and unlawful based on which offence you think is worse.
ReplyDeleteI think this was a very clever tactic that the police used in order to catch criminals. I don't think that it was very ethical, but it was lawful.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Michael, had they been forced to show up to the Dunkin Donuts Center then that would have been violating the law. So what if they lied to get them there.
ReplyDeleteCaley, they had the ability to choose not to go.
ReplyDeletei disagree with michaela i feel that the consequence part is not as newsworthy as the fact that the government is being unlawful
ReplyDeleteI agree with tyge becasue it was very clever but it was not very nice.
ReplyDeleteI disgree with Jaclyn because the police can use many ways in order to catch their felons.
ReplyDeleteIf people did not break the law and try to hide from it then these contreversal things would not happen. Even if the government did do something unlawful, they did it to catch criminals that needed to be caught.
ReplyDeleteThis is lawful, but it is also unhumane. They invited these people to go meet to be casted in a movie, basically giving them the chance of a lifetime. ReplyDeletealthough it was lawful, i still feel that it goes against a majority of most peoples ethics
ReplyDeleteI agree with you @alec. It is very serious when people do not show up for their court dates.
ReplyDeleteTyge, it was a very smart idea to do this but it was unlawful. I agree 100 percent with Madie.
ReplyDeleteThis is newsworthy because it does not happen very often. I think this is lawful because the fugitives chose to attend the even. It is not entrapment because the people already committed a crime already.
ReplyDeleteIf i was a person who got tricked to being aresseted i would not be happy but if you do the crime then you have to do the time.
ReplyDeleteThis is very newsworthy because it creates a controversy of whether or not this was a lawful act. They tricked people into coming and so some could see this violating the law of entrapment.
ReplyDeleteThis entire topic is very contovesal, but on my opinion the us marshalls did the best thing by arresting these known fugitives.
ReplyDeleteThese people are idiots for actually believing that they were going to be an extra in a movie.. Im not even sure if they hand out letters to be extras..
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Chris. How exactly is this unlawful? What law was broken?
ReplyDeletewell jessica, sometimes people cannot make their court dates because something could come up and they couldnt make it.
ReplyDeletei think those people were just plain stupid to fall for that.
ReplyDeleteZach, the public thinks its funny. Am I correct public?
ReplyDeleteMost people who read letters like this automatically think its junk or spam and throw it out. Its the criminals fault for falling for the trick
ReplyDeleteThis isn't clever. They got the idea from a tv show where they catch pedophiles on chatrooms. This method, however unethical it may be, has been used before.

ReplyDeletei think its prety funny actually
ReplyDeletei believe that this article is newsworthy because it brings up two points that have two different oppinions.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Veiga. They are dumb for thinking they were in a movie.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Alec. Even though it was not a very nice thing to do, the fugitives deserve it.
ReplyDeleteWell JACLYN, They should make every effort to attend their court hearing.
ReplyDeleteThis is also a very rare occurence that the government would arrest all of these fugitives, I think that the government sometimes lets these people off too easy and this time i believe they got what they deserved.
ReplyDeleteJerzy, I agree,I actually think that it was a little funny. When I heard this, I did actually chuckle.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shounak. If i ever saw this in my email I would delete it immeadiately.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a bit humorous. Just sayin'
ReplyDeleteRIP RYAN CONNOR<3 WE ARE SORRY YOU COULDNT COMMENT ON THIS BLOG
ReplyDeleteyeah JESSICA what if they are in the hospital dying, should they get there then????
ReplyDeletelo siento everyone i meant to say that is was immoral...like seriously if your going to be that judgemental you need to chill.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mike, this was a very clever way to catch the criminals. If they had not done this then the fugitives would still be on the loose. I think it had to be done, but it was pretty mean.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Veiga. I do not think they just hand out invitations to be extras, so the fugitives should have been suspicious, especially since they were wanted and had warrents for their arrest. It is a very contreversal topic.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shounak. The fugitives were dumb enough to fall for the trick, therefore they can not blame anyone other than themselves.
ReplyDeleteJerzy, they did have the ability to choose not to go. But they believed they were going for a different reason than they actually were.
ReplyDeleteDesiree, I would prefer that you use proper English without slang
ReplyDeletejessica i completely agree
ReplyDeleteNot really Meredith because like Jerzy had wonderfully explained, these people had the choice to show up at the Dunkin Donuts Center in order to be apart of the motion picture. This cannot be unlawful because the police should be able to use all of the resources that it may have in it's power in order to catch ample amount of felons.
ReplyDeleteyoure correct jerzy.
ReplyDeleteThis article was pretty funny how the US government would bust all of these fugitives in such a short time. They probably would not have shown up to their court cases and this idea should be very effective.
ReplyDeleteWell JACLYN, I'm pretty sure that they are NOT going to be in the hospital with 25 bullets in their head.
ReplyDeleteBut they could have come up with a better lawful plan, Tyge.
ReplyDeleteI agree with John, the fugitives definitely deserved this.
ReplyDeleteChris please explain how i was being "judgemental." That doesnt really apply here..
ReplyDeleteJerzy has a point. It's a little funny how oblivius some people can and how they were arrested.
ReplyDeleteI find this pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteThis should go on World's Dumbest Criminals!
I am sorry for that last comment. Is this better? : I am just saying, I think it is very funny.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Meredith, they could have.
ReplyDeleteThis article is newsworthy because it is important that these people are caught. They did the crime so now they have to do the time! Although it is important that the fugitives are caught, I do not think that the way the police did it was laweful. They tricked them and should have figured out a better way to handle it.
ReplyDeleteyeah JESSICA you dont know their lives and i highly doubt that they are going to get off of their death beds to go to court.
ReplyDeletemaybe they knew what this trick was, and wanted to get caugh instead of hiding futher more. idk its just a thought
ReplyDeletei agree with merideth, i think its unlawful but i think it's a clever idea at the same time, because it would be a different story if these people that got the letter did nothing wrong, but they did, and they should pay for their actions.
ReplyDeleteok michaela like im sorry i just threw my two cents which is the point of the blog. Im sorry we dont see eye to eye but there is no reason to critisize me.
ReplyDeleteI think this is pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteCaley, WHO CARES! THEY COULD GET ARRESTED ANYWHERE! IT DOES NOT MATTER! They can get arrested at a coffee shop, a mall, a theater, a sports event. So it does not matter.
ReplyDeletei also believe that this article is newsworthy because when alot of people are concerned with this topic because it goes against morals.
ReplyDeletealright fine jerzy it was comical
ReplyDeleteOkay JACLYN, they should tell the court people that they are ill and cannot make the date and time and to change the time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with John. Its doubtful that these criminals would have shown up for their court hearing no matter what the situation.
ReplyDeleteI agree with mike, it was a clever way to catch them. Unfortunately, I do not agree with it still. They tricked them and honestly I think it was unprofessional.
ReplyDeletei agree Shounak
ReplyDeleteI also think the people who got the letter are a little gullable and naive, who would believe that an agency somehow found out who they are out of the 6 billion other people in the world and picked THEM at random to be in a new movie....that just doesn't happen. it definitely is too good to be true.
ReplyDeleteOkay that would make sense, if in fact i was critizing you at all?
ReplyDeleteyeah mkay JESSICA. what if they have cancer or something and they will never be able to go to court?????
ReplyDeleteI agree with John and Jon.
ReplyDeleteK...chris 1 michaela 0
ReplyDeletePeople that avoid court dates obviously need to be kept off the streets, so the government was protecting us by unlawfully catching them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rose, it was very unproffesional for the government to catch them in this way. It looks bad on their part.
ReplyDeleteJACLYN!! I dont think that they have cancer AND still be abe to go to the casting! Beat that!!
ReplyDeletechris: O
ReplyDeletei agree with devin lolz
ReplyDeleteJESSICA!!! they could roll the bed to the place and grant them their last dying wish to be an extra
ReplyDeletei can see how i would be mad if it was me who did something wrong and who got the letter, showed up with high hopes and got let down with the option of either being arrested or paying bail, but it is fair, and it is the law to abide by
ReplyDeleteWow 93 comments( 94 now)! We should just make it 100 for the fun of it!
ReplyDeleteEXACTLYYYYY!!!!!
