Discuss the six elements of what goes into a photo. Does your first photo do this? http://wordsandphotos.org/Commentary/WhatMakesAPhotoGood.htm
1. Is there a clear center of interest? 2. Is the image composed well? 3. Is the focus tack sharp and is the exposure appropriate? 4. Does the photo tell a story. 5. Does the lighting inhance the subject and message? 6.Is the approach creative?
The six elements that go into a photo are: a clear center of interest, the image must be composed well, the focus should be sharp and the exposure should be appropriate, the photo should tell a story, the lighting should enhance the subject or message, and the approach sould be creative. My picture follows these elements because there is a clear center of interest; the mushroom cloud, all of the picture contributes to the image, the focus is slightly blurred because of motion, it tells a tremendous story about world war two, the lighting enhanced the image, and has a creative approach, which is that the photo was taken at high altitude and at a high angle, which is different than mushroom clouds viewed from the ground.
I think that if the picture shows something personal, then only you know the story, so i guess you could say it could be a completely different story to someone else.. so either way the picture is gonna tell a story.
The first element that states that there is a clear center of interest is present in the photo of the tsunami and earthquake destruuction that is my picture, because the center of interest was all of the rubble and there is no apparent backround parts to this photo.
i dont think my photo does this very well. Well there might be a center of interest. but thtat would be about it. my photo also could tell a story, but not when you look at it .
I do not think that it is possible for a photo to not tell a story, because some people will just view it as abstract and figure a story out for it. Because photography is subjective, it is different for different people, but there will always be a story.
Creativity, lighting, story telling, focus, image composure and a clear center of interest and the six elements that go into a picture. These are all very important to make a picture. My first picture has creativity, lighting, focus and a clear center of interest. Even though the picture doesn't have every element, it is still a great picture.
The most important point of focus on what a photo tells us is does the photo tell a story clearly. A strong and moving photo has emotion, power, and really captures the moment. If the photo doesnt have these things then it does not make a clear point and show a story clearly.
My picture of the earthquake suits the second element of a piture being composed well. It excludes backround detail by only providing the important picutre of the effect of the disaster.
1)tell a story 2)be descriptive 3)have a main point 4)lead to another point 5)grab the viewer & make them interested in the picture 6)make the viewer think of more than one perspective for the situation in the picture
Although no one saw my photo I think it met most of the standards set by the article. The only standards it didn't meet are the photo telling a story and the creativity.
I think my first photo does most of these things. It definitely tells a story because it is me and family laughing, the lighting enhanced the photo because if there was no lighting then you could not see anything. The approach is creative because it is almost like a headshot because it's a close up of us. The image and interest level could have been higher but I liked the picture a lot. I also have a fire department shirt on too which hieghtens the interest.
Meredith Walsh: The six elements that should be evaluated in a picture are: clear center of interest, the image is composed well, the focus tack is sharp,if the picture tells a story, if the lighting enhances it, and is it creative. My picture doesn't follow all these elements but follows most of them. I don't think the focus tack is really shown too well. It's hard to focus on one thing because you could be looking at the firefighters or the buildings that fell. My picture does tell a story though by the backround and if you don't know what happened you wonder what happened.
The six elements that goes into a photo as follows: Is the approach creative?, Does lightening increase the message or the subject?, Does the photo tell a story?, IS the a focus?, Does it have a focus tack sharp and is the exposure appropriate?, and is it composed well
I also agree with Ryan. Every pictur captures something different and unique and therefore every picture tells a story. Some do a better job than others though. A really good picture will have a point of focus, something powerful that grabs the viewer, uniqueness, and good composure.
Photos should include a center of intrest, a composed image, exposure, the image should tell a story about something, and a creative approach. These are all things that would make a photo strong.
My photo definitely captures the first two elements of a good picture. 1) The center of interest in my photo is clear. It is the huge dragon hanging from the ceiling. 2) The image is composed well because the dragon is from far away and is kind of in the distance.
I think the article really tells us what to focus on in a photo now than just looking at something and saying yeah sure it's good. My photo was good because it did represent those things after I looked at it again and again. I will now relate my new photos to the first one and put it into my project.
The six elements of what goes into a photo are: a clear center of interest, well composed/organized structure, appropriate exposure, a photo that tells a story, good lighting that enhances subject, and creative approach.
Meredith Walsh: The best element that my picture shows is telling a story. It tells a story because it has a big topic and when you look at it you wonder what happened.
Six elements of what go into a photo are... Having a clear center of interest, having the a strong subject that stands above all parts of the picture. The picture being composed well with elements of the photograph being orginized. Focus being sharp and appropriate. The picture telling a story of the event(Picture being worth a thousand words.) Lighting enhancing the subject and image. And having a creative approach.
My photo is about the world trade centers. The focus of the picture is the smoke and destruction that is coming from the twin towers. My picture is composed well because it is very orderly and the background does not distract from the focus of the picture.
To make a picture good, there has to be a clear center of interest, it has to be composed well, the focus has to be sharp, it needs to tell a story, the lighting has to enhance the subject or the message, and the approach has to be creative. My photo does all of this. It shows emtotion and has a story behind it, and it also has good lighting.
The picture that I have of the earthquake tells a story that a natureal disaster just took place because you can see all of the rubble. You can also see the natural lighting which is also an element because the sun emphasizes the rubble of the tsunami and earthquake.
I think my picture followed all of the criteria, for the most part.
the picture had a clear center of focus, which was me and kassie. The lighting was natural because it was outside, so it was light from the sun. The photo tells somewhat of a story, which the graduation cap flag in the background. The approach is different because its candid and we were both laughing.
I refuse to re-write my whole other comment after it accidently got deleted and i cried so this will have to do because i have a headache....
The 6 elements in a good picture are a clear center of interest, good composition, sharpness and appropriate exposure, a story being told with the photo, and good lighting
My picture representsd almost all of them. It shows a center of intrest becasue the guy is crying in the middle of the disaster. The image is put together well and it shows it is composed. The image tells a story of the tsunami and how it can ruin peoples lives. The approach is good becasue it brings out the worst of it and it is good becaseu it is a recent disaster that people care about.
I think my photo is not very good though. Although it has a good center of interest and good lighting, sharpness, and exposure, it does not really tell a story. All it has is a cat sitting there and doing nothing
The 6 elements of a good photograph should consist of a clear center of interest, good composition, sharpness and 'appropriate' exposure, a story being told within the photo, and good lighting
if a picture doesnt tell a story or make someone ask questions it's probably not a picture that is going to grab someones attention or make someone think twice about it
I think my first photo is very good. It sets up the story that my photos are going to tell. It is sharp with good lighting and presents a story that would interest a lot of people. The picture has good composition and makes a clear point.
1)tell a story 2)be descriptive 3)have a main point 4)lead to another point 5)grab the viewer & make them interested in the picture 6)make the viewer think of more than one perspective for the situation in the picture

3. Is the focus tack sharp and is the exposure appropriate?
4. Does the photo tell a story.
5. Does the lighting inhance the subject and message?
6.Is the approach creative?
i agree with you tyge

ReplyDeleteHaving a clear center of interest, having the a strong subject that stands above all parts of the picture. The picture being composed well with elements of the photograph being orginized.
Focus being sharp and appropriate.
The picture telling a story of the event(Picture being worth a thousand words.)
Lighting enhancing the subject and image.
And having a creative approach.
My photo has horrible lighting, but it does tell a story.
ReplyDeleteMy photo is about the world trade centers. The focus of the picture is the smoke and destruction that is coming from the twin towers. My picture is composed well because it is very orderly and the background does not distract from the focus of the picture.
ReplyDeleteI believe a critical element that a good photo needs is that it needs to raise questions. Such as what happened? How did it happen?

ReplyDeleteSully I like how deep the subject of your picture is
ReplyDeleteThanks Rose. I really thought that my topic would be very easily relatable especially because it can draw such great emotions from people.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Andrew. If a photo makes people question, it means that it is interesting.
ReplyDeleteJohn you have a good picture because it shows something happening and you can go into the results of it
ReplyDeleteZach, why didn't your picture tell a story?
ReplyDeleteMy picture connects to the rest of the elements of good photos because it tells a story and it generates such emotions from people when they see it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with @VEIGA because, a picture should raise questions like that so the reader can learn more.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Andrew, the best part of a photo are the questions raised, and especially the ones that go unanswered in the photo.
ReplyDeleteI dont think my photo tells a full story but I do think it has a lot of potential.
ReplyDeleteI think my picture followed all of the criteria, for the most part.
