How is emotion illustrated in photography? What makes a picture newsworthy?
Emotion can be illustrated in photography in many different ways. One is using color/lighting/the time of day. A photo that is supposed to be scary is more scary if taken at midnight than at noon. Another way is with the expressions on people's faces.
Emotion is illustrated in photography in certain ways. There are things that can effect the emotions like where shadows are cast, the colors, or just the topic of the picture in general.
Every picture demonstrates emotion. An example of this was the picture of the kid who was frightened by the guy with that thing in his hand. This picutres emotion would have been fright and anger.
Emotion is illustrated in photography in more ways than one. A picture is newsworthy if it evokes emotion and has a broader meaning. Emotion can be expressed in photography with people, for example many facial expressions bring about different emotions.
Emotion is illustrated through pictures by capturing real moments, moments that have significance in the world, and getting that on film. In order for a picture to be newsworthy it has to be from an event or tragedy that has happened for it has to be contiversial, or create talk
The things that make a picture nwsworthy are the same things that make an article newsworthy. It has to be timely to some degree, it has to be proximate to the reader, and it needs to hit close to home for most people.
In order for a picture to be newsworthy, the main quality it has to have is human interest. It has to attract attention in some way possible so that it is unique from all the others.

Emotion is illustrated in photography through facial expressions and actions of a person or people. It can also be expressed through objects in the picture. Emotion can be illustrated through the clarity or color of the picture, if the picture is blurry or unclear, it can make you feel confused or illustrate that the person in the picture is confused, maybe with illusion vs. their reality. If a picture is black and white, it can portray sad emotions, or confusion as well.
Emotion is illustrated in photography by the objects around the main focus of the picture. If there is sad things around a person, you would think that the person is sad. Lighting is very important because it could make it easier to tell if there is emotion or not.
Meredith Walsh: Emotion is illustrated in photography in different ways. It can be illustrated in someone's face in the picture, in the scene of the picture, and in the lights or colors.
Emotion can be illustrated in pictures in many ways. It can be done by using effects such as shadowing, weather, colors, and lighting. Different backgrounds with people or events unfolding can create emotion. Also capturing the look on a person's face can be a great way to display the emotion of a scene.
Emotion can be expressed in pictures in a few different ways. One way would be if any people are in the photo and they themselves express emotion through their facial expressions.
A picture is newsworthy when it relates to a current event and gives the emotion related with that event. For example, a picture of people in Libya with rifles or of explosions is newsworthy now, but would not have been if it was randomly revealed twenty years ago.
I agree with Jaclyn emotion is illustrated through pictures by capturing a significant event. For example, the pictures taken of the 911 tragedy express many emotions because it was a real occurence which devastated our country.
Fear happyness, hyper or anytype of of emotion for example Someone could be: crying in a hole holding onto something. Obviously the person itsn't going to be happy. But if you don't see a face in picture, you could look at the surrounding environment. Is there a fire? Is there a trail of dripping blood? dead bodies? An amazing angel on which the photo was shot
Happy emotions that can be found in pictures are celebrations whether it is a party, celebration as a result of government change like in Egypt and sports teams winning a game are examples of happy emotions that can be displayed in a picture.
Emotion is illustrated in pictures through body language and facial features. What makes a picture newsworthy is the composition of it and how they place the things in the photo to make it intresting. What also makes it newsworhy are the objects in the photo and how they are displayed.
A newsworthy picture is something that makes the viewer feel something as well, it can make them feel their own versions of emotion, or make them understand just how the person or object / situation in the photo is feeling or feels.
Emotion is illustrated in a picture when someone connects with it or feels something about it. I think a picture is newsworthy when it has the 5 elements in it.
I agree with Ryan Connor, that completely makes sense because something thats happening now, wouldn't necessicarily make any sense to the viewer 20 years ago. Or if something is happening over in california thats important to their society, it might not be important to the people living across the country. To each it's own
What makes a picture newsworthy: It's proximity for example if it shows a picture of our school people in California wouldn't really care. It's impact of people and there personal opinion on that subject
In order for a picture to be newsworthy it has to tell you something "a picture is worth a thousand words" The picture has to have human interest and make a person think and look for all the possible hidden messages.
Things that make a picture newsworthy are what makes anything newsworthy, timing, significance, proximity, prominence, and human interest. There are other things that play into a picture being newsworthy and for me they would be how clear the picture is, and sometimes the colors and shadows, and also the caption is important.
Meredith Walsh: What makes a photograph newsworthy is if it has to do with something important. Also if it is by a famous photographer. Hurricanes and tsunamis are photographs that are newsworthy because they are things that people want to see.
I think in some pictures the emotion is what makes the picture newsworthy and allows it to really capture the moment. For example when we blogged about a picture of a child screaming in fear and all we could see was the shadow of an arm that had a lot of emotion. It captured the moment and showed the horrible things going on in Libya.
Emotion can be showed in a picture in multiple ways. First of all it can be showed on a person in the picture. It can also be shown in the story that the picture tells. That is how emotion can be shown in a picture
Another way for emotion in a photo is to have a certain subject and have it be very emotional. For example could be a picture on the world trade center. This could elicit some emotions from the viewer. In this way, a picture could really be worth a thousand words for someone.
What makes a picture newsworthy follows the same principles as what makes a news article newsworthy, with prominence, magnitude, ect. These concepts are also paired with our last blog of what makes a photo good is what makes a picture newsworthy.
I agree with jerzy that the colors and shadows definatly play into making a good photo and making it newsworthy. anyone can take a picture of an event but its the angle and the small things that you cature that bring out the emotion and make it newsworthy.
I disagree with Tyge, if people in our school saw a picture of something happening in California then they would be interested. After all California is still a part of our country so it would affect us as well.
I agree with Ryan, some picture are newsworthy if it relates to current events. People know the meaning of it, and they know what is going on. This is not always the case though, because some pictures are still newsworthy 20 years after its release.
In order for a picture to be newsworthy it needs to be something that people can connect to. It could be a negative connection like maybe some anger if you saw a picture of the Iraq war. Or it could be a positive connection in which it could draw forth good emotions.
I agree with Chris. Photographers are truely artist. It is very difficult to capture the emotion in a scene and take a good, quality picture that people are interested in. They have a tough job.
Emotion can be captured in many ways. I agree with what Jon said, photographers are truly artists. For somebody to capture something in a way that provokes the reader to give it's attention to it, is amazing.
I agree with everyone when they say artists use specific techniques to show emotion. Theyre skilled at what they do and know what would show emotion and what wouldnt.
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and Michaela does make a good point, that it is not like their painting or scullpting something with their hands. But they do capture great moments.

I agree with Jerzy, the captions are important. They can give the viewer more insight on what is happening.
ReplyDeleteI think in some pictures the emotion is what makes the picture newsworthy and allows it to really capture the moment. For example when we blogged about a picture of a child screaming in fear and all we could see was the shadow of an arm that had a lot of emotion. ReplyDeleteCaley Remillard
ReplyDeleteI disagree with you Zach. I don't think a picture needs to be timely or needs to hit close to home to make a picture newsworthy.
@Michaela and @Tyge, it would all depend on what the picture is about wouldn't it?
ReplyDeleteChris, what kind of message does symmetry give?
