  1. I think that the picture that captures the story the best is the one with the boat covered in smoke. I think that this was the best, because it really showed how awful it was. The captions highlight the story by adding how much money it would be to get the gear to clean it up. By showing the problem with the picture and the caption, it really was the best picture.

  2. The picture that i think captures the story best is the one of the biologist releasing the turtle back into the ocean after the oil spill. this captures it best because it shows that people really care and are doing what they can to help all of the animals that were affected by this oil spill. and Helping to fix the problem and get the animals better is more important then who is to blame and how much money was spent.

  3. These pictures show how effected people and animals were to the oil spill. The picture that best captures the story is the first one where, a biologist is returning a sea turtle back into the ocean.

  4. The captions help make these pictures newsworthy because it tells you what is happening and without these captions, it would be hard to tell the significance of these photots.

  5. I agre with madison the picture with the smoke really shows alot of detail.

  6. I think the picture with the smoke coming out of the oil rig was the best that described the story. It shows the whole impact of the oil spill and how big it really is. It can also give some sort of idea as to how much this whole thing is going to cost.

I agree with Jaclyn. The picture of the biologist releasing the turtle back into the ocean after the oil spill does capture the story the best.

  8. Personally I think that the sea turtle one is the best. It explains everything in detail without too much information, like why the sea turtle is going back and stuff. My opinoin just could be biased because i love baby sea turtles<3

  9. I think the picture with the best story is the "Gulf Oil Spill Spending Spree." I think it captures it best because it not only shows that there is damage underwater but also it is doing damage to the skies above polluting the air.

  10. I agree with you @jaclyn, it doesnt't matter about who started this problem or how much money was used. The bigger picture is how many animals were affected and how thousands of animals died.

  11. Captions give these pictures me a whole new meaning to me. It enlightens me to really break down the meaning of the photo.

  12. Marissa, I love baby sea turtles too<3

  13. I think pictures have perfect captions. In the display there are many pictures that depict people in the gulf area affected by the oil spill. That was such a big spill that it is still a long way from being clean. The captions are long enough and give the right amount of detail in order to show what is going on.

  14. I agree with what Chris and madison that the picture was good. On all of the pictures the captions really helped to supply good details on the picture and the background. The captions just added to already powerful pictures.

  15. The best picture is the one with the sea turtle. I agree with Marissa Mayo it is just a good photo.

  16. I think the one that is least important is the one of the woman who owns a seafood shop that had damage to it. This isn't exactly news worthy, something like that could easily happen every day, we may just not nessicarily know about it.

  17. The caption shows just how much this spill is going to cost us in the long run. It's going to be billions of dollars and it might've been able to be prevented too. They tried to cut some corners and it came back around to haunt BP oil.

  19. Chris can you elaborate on your feelings about the photos please.

  20. I think the picture of the oyster boats best describes this happening. It shows how it destroyed peoples lives who fished for a living and know with this oil their lives are ruined.

  21. The picutre that captures the Gulf Oil Spill the best is the one with the oil rig burning. It really showed the magnitude of the event. I think that the captions add a lot of detail and were helpful, because some of the pictures were hard to understand how it related to the crisis using just the picture.

  22. The picture of the gulf of mexico after the oil spill, is the best picture. It captures the story the best because it shows how the waters looked after the spill and how strongly they were affected. The spill was devastating to the gulf and to many species of animals.

  23. Mike I agree with both of your posts, this is going to cost a lot of money and it's the last thing we need to be worrying about, but now we're forced to. Not #winning for now, but sooner or later there will be #happyendings.

The captions show enough informatin but not too much. They all have who, what, where, when and why which is what a caption is supposed to have. They are written so everybody knows what is going on but they don't know the full story so they want to read an article on it.

  25. I think the one with the sea turtle is the best one. It says how they bought the boat and theyre helping sea turtles.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Tyge i agree with you I would like to see what Chris thinks about the photos.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The burning boat picture is definitly the most eye catching becuase it is the most disasterous picture and I would think that that picure would stick out the most to others.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree with Tyge, the captions give the right amount of detail.

  29. these aretists are #winning, they are realy driving home the values that he was intending to make.

  30. Thanks Ryan, I appreciate the support.

  31. I also agree with aislinn that the one about the sea turtle is really good becasue it shows what people are trying to do to help out this situation.

    ReplyDelete
  32. PS. I meant the picture with the huge plume of smoke

  33. The captions were really long and wordy, but they provided all the information. Some pictures really captured the emotion of the people affected and working to fix the effects of the gulf oil spill. However with the help of the captions the pictures really told the story behind each picture and how the person was affected by the spill. The captions were exceptional and filled with great details.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree with Ryan Connor and Tyge about the captions. They do give just the right amount of information.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I disagree with Tyge because I don't think the picture gets the magnitude of the oil spill. It only shows a small part of the oil spill.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think that the picture that best describes the story is the picture of the smoke and oil spewing out of the water because it summerizes the whole situation.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The cause of all of the rest of the picutes is the smoking boat, and the most mind boggling effect is the sea turtle being pulled out of the water. This is the most intersting effect becuase many people are animal lovers.

  38. I think the picture that captures the Gulf Oil Spill the best is the picture of the oil rig burning. You don't normally see stuff burning in the middle of the ocean. The caption highlights the story because it describes what is happening. It's interesting because it tells you the intensity of the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I agree with mike, if they did not cut some corners, then the oil spill could have been avoided. It will cost billions of dollars, as he said. It just shows that a little extra effort somewhere can prevent a disaster later.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree with Tyge, I think the captions gives the right amount of detail.

  41. The picture that least captures the story is the picture of a Chevrolet Tahoe with a Mississippi Government license plate in the parking spot of the Biloxi Mayor outside City Hall. Just upon looking at this picture without reading the caption, all you see is a parked car. A picture of just simply a parked car shows no relation to the oil spill.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Why is this newsworthy? It is newsworthy because it's in USA terriorty and the oil spill can esxpand to the coasts of Texas, Alabama, Mississippi & Florida and can hurt the fishing industry that is down there. I agree with Maddie the picture that does capture this story is that thew one with the smoke coming out of boat in the middle of the ocean

  43. Meredith Walsh:
I think the picture with the sea turtle is the best. It captures the story the most because its and important part of the gulf spill because the guy was saving the sea turtle.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree with Michaela, that picture did not fit the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think that all of these picures are good becuase they really capture the enitre situatuaion that took place during the gulf oil spill. The smoking boat and turtle being the most devistating picures of the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  46. John, yes the picture of the sea turtle may be touching, but that's not the point of the story. It's more about the tremendous amount of money that we are going to put into the gulf and that picture doesn't really fit the entirity of the story.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree with Alec, the picture of the boats really show how this situation is impacting people. Fishermen are no longer allowed to fish for oysters.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree with sully, the picture tyge thinks is the best does not capture the magnitude of the entire oil spill. Actually I do not believe that a single picture can capture the effect of the entire oil spill because it affected so many different people and aspects of peoples live in the area.

    ReplyDelete
  49. John, how is the turtle picture devastating?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think the best picture is the one of the burning oil rig. It shows that BP is really not focusing on the importtant things like the oil spill.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I also think the picture of the sea turtle captures the story well. This is because It shows how the spill did not just affect humans, but also innocent animals. The spill ruined the homes of many wildlife species, like the turtle shown in the picture. In the picture the turtle is being placed back into the cleaned water off the coast of Louisiana after the spill.

  52. I agree with ryan connor aout the gulf oil spill, it shows the importance of the event, but it was kind of a while ago so it does not have timeliness or whatever

    ReplyDelete
  53. I disagree with John and disagree with Mike. Not all of the pictures were important to the story, the one with the Chevrolet Tahoe in the parking spot for example.

I also think that the tremendous amounts of money spent is important, but the animal life that were hurt from that event was a big deal as well. It hurts the food industry in the South, and it is just bad to watch animals die from oil spills.

  54. THAT TURTLE PIC IS NOT DEVESTATING! they are letting the poor creature free back into its natural habitat

    ReplyDelete
  55. I also think the turtle picture is the one that captures the story. The pour turtle.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I agree with jonathan, there is not just one picture that can capture the entire event.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I agree with ryan disagreeing with them, the tahoe is irrelevant to the story of pictures, i get what its trying to say but it wasn't as powerful as the rest of them

    ReplyDelete
  58. I agree with what's said about the turtle because that is another point of view that is more up close and personal.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The story is newsworthy because of the proximity and consequence. the oil spill happened right off the Gulf Coast and affected the economies of states like Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana. It also caused arguments between politicians over whether offshore drilling should still be allowed. The captions highlight why the story is newsworthy because they describe the spill and give the results

    ReplyDelete
  60. I agree with Johnathan and Ryan. There isn't one picture that descrbes the entire spill. The picture I thought explained the situation told what happened but pictures can also describe the effects of the spill

    ReplyDelete
  61. I agree with michaela about the spill affecting everyone and everything, including the innocent baby sea turtles ):

    ReplyDelete
  62. Ryan you make a good point, but I didnt say that all of the pictures were good or bad. I just said that not one by itself completely tells the story.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think the picture that captures the story the best is the picture of the oil spill off the golf of Mexico. I think this because it was a devestating event that effected many people and this picture shows it.
