  1. This story is newsworthy because it shows how some people are unfit to be parents. To capture the essence of this story, I would probably take a picture of a van submerged in the water.

  2. This woman should not have blamed her children for her own problems. Her children might have been the cause of her extreme stress but that is obviously not a reason to kill her children, especially since two of them were completly helpless.

  3. This is a tragic story and its terrible that this happened. Three yound kids died and a mother committed suicide and this is what makes this story newsworthy. They said the father had not been charged with anything, but my guess is that he was a contributing factor in the actions taken by his wife. The woman still should not have taken her children lives if she was having some problems

  4. This story had a lot of uniqueness and human interest. People are not exactly used to a person with four young children trying to drown them and themselves by driving into the Hudson River. This woman clearly had a few issues. As we read in the article, she had to raise four children by themselves, which is very stressful. I would take a picture of a sinking car to capture the essence of the story.

  5. People are most likely blaming the woman for her actions rather than looking into the real tragedy that took place. Although it is a very sad story people find not the deaths the newsworthy part of the story but rather the actions of the mother and how all of them died. The people should be mourning th deaths rather than being angry at the woman who did this.

  6. This is newsworthy because it has human interest. If most people saw a headline about 200 most influential people in the world or this article I would bet that most of them would choose this one. I would take a picture of the vigil that they set up.

  7. I agree with jonathan. The father was probably a big part of the problem and the mother should not have decided her children's fate just because she was depressed. However, she may have thought that the father would have neglected the children and wanted to prevent them from suffering, but this still doesn't justify her actions.

This woman shoulnd't have drowned her kids with her. If she didn't want to live she should still let her kids live, they still have their whole lives to live. It's newsworthy because it is about a crazy woman killing herself and two of her kids. Maybe somebody could have stopped her if they knew she was going through a crisis.

  9. I think that this women was definitely under a tremendous amount of pressure. I'm also guessing that she must've had some mental disorder. Even when things are really bad, I think there would have to be something wrong with you in order to drive into a river with your kids.

  10. This story is news worthy because it is not often that people drive into the Hudson River. The picture that I would imagine is them picking the car out of the water. I find this to be very disturbing becasue she did not even give these kids a chance to live.

  11. If she was that lonely than why did she kill her children too.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well the fact that a mother killed her children makes this story newsworthy. It's newsworthy because this never happens.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think this could have been prevented if someone had helped this woman out. She was depressed, and it's common for people to committ suicide. I don't blame the woman though, she was a single mom of four children; obviously she was under tremendous stress. This story is newsworthy because it creates a lot of emotion.

  14. i agree with alec its like a contradiction.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Maybe she felt that her children were the cause of her problems, or she didn't want them to suffer after she died.

    ReplyDelete
  16. What the woman did was wrong, it doesnt really matter what her reasons for doing this were. She basically murdered her three kids because of her own issues and this is a very sad story.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Xinrui i think she need to seek help, i know i wouldnt just offer my services to some random chick that is also insane.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think that this happened because the mother was stressed out the point where she couldn't take it anymore and had no place or person to go to. I also think the father of the kids had a lot to do with this.

  20. I believe that this is newsworthy because it is a very sad story that is very rare. You don't really hear about mother's trying to drown themselves and their children.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The fact that the woman had her first child at fifteen adds to the stresses that this woman endured. And even though she obviously had a rough life having her first child at 15, that is still no reason to do an inhumane action such as this and take two childrens lives far too early.

  22. This is newsworthy because it is about something people are interested in. This is big news and people want to know what "drove" her to do this (no pun intended). A picture that would capture the essence of this story would be the car as it is being pulled out of the water.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree with jon that this was wrong and that she murdered her children.

  24. Meredith Walsh:
I would take a picture of the lake and show how this lady murdered her kids. The caption under would be how crazy do you have to be to drive a car into a lake and try and kill your 3 kids.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree with Ryan, maybe she felt that her children's lives would suck after she died.

    ReplyDelete
  26. This story is newsworthy because it is extremely tragic, considering it is about a woman not only killing herself but also her children at the same time. This story is also very unique, a mother killing herself and her children is not something you hear about everday.

    ReplyDelete
  27. This woman was was wrong to take the lifes of three of her children. Those kids could have found a cure to a disease, or been at very high points in the government. Every life taken is one step back from solving the problems of this world.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree with Devin. This woman is crazy for obvious reasons. It doesn't make that much snese that she would kill her children though, unless she just didn't think it through well and just wanted to end it quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  29. This is newsworthy because 3 young children and a mom was killed. It effect everyone. Because everyone has a family even if it's not your biological family everyone has a "family" and it makes you thankful your still alive and not dead

    ReplyDelete
  30. Obviously I think this woman is insane. At the same time, I want to know what made her so driven to not only commit suicide, but to attempt to kill her four children and succeed with three.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think a picture of a floating van would capture the essence of the story.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Whoever this woman is, obviously she made a huge mistake. She drowned herself and her three children most likely due to stress and depression and you can be mad, angry, and appauled, but at the same time some people need sympathy. People do not just go out one day and decide to take the lives of her children and herself because those are the people she loves the most.

  33. Caley Remillard
I agree with John. For the mother to kill her children along with herself was horrible. The children were helpless and had a whole life ahead of them. They did not deserve to be killed no matter what.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree with Xinrui because that definitely would let people know what the storyline of the story is.

    ReplyDelete
  35. This is newsworthy because this is a tragic event that affected the community as a whole. It is also newsworthy because you never know what someone is going throiugh or dealing with, and how one little thing could push them over the edge. you also never know if someone is mentally capable or stable of taking care of their children. Obviously she was not mentally stable and did something that affected everyone around her without thinking her actions through.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I agree with Xinrui. It's wrong to kill children. But it least she did not kill herself in front of the kids even though most of them would be to young to remember

    ReplyDelete
  37. This is newsworthy because it is tragic and doesnt happpen everyday. It captures peoples attention and their emotions because it is a really sad story that no one was able to help this women work out her mental problems or save the helpless children.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This woman was obviously very disturbed and was wrong to do what she did. No extreme amount of stress or pressure can justify what she did, it was simply unhumane. A mother is supposed to protect her children not be the direct cause of danger.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I agree with what people are saying about the father being a part in this. I mean obviously he was a huge contributor to this entire problem. He was never there to support the family and this poor woman couldn't find help anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Rose she could not be insane, because if she was then she would be in an asylum or under some medication to help release stress from her brain. People just do stupid things, death happens all the time, and she should be dead because of what she did to those poor children. But she just made a bad decision, I dont think she was insane.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think that I would take a picture of the surviving child just to show how sad and depressing this story is. It could also evoke some sympathy for the family and wouldn't really evoke that much hatred for the mother.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I also agree with Devin, this woman was definitly crazy. Does anyone know if she had been depressed or diagnosed with some sort of anger problems?

    ReplyDelete
  43. The picture that I would put with this story is a picture of the kids and the mother that died and also a picture of the car in the water.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I would take a picture of the car once they retrieved it from the river. Or take a picture of the crane pulling the car out of the river. This would express the severity of the incident.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Could not agree more with what Jerzy said I mean you don't know this womans background, he makes a point saying how the father who was never there contributed to her depression. A lot of bad things can happen to people.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think that this story is newsworthy because, it shows how stressfull a mother feels by rasing 4 kids by herself. I agree with Xinrui, if someone actually helped her out in some way, then she wouldn't have done this.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Caley Remillard
I agree with Jerzy. A picture of the car being pulled out of the water would capture the essence of this story very well.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @jonathan
I think it said in the story that she was depressed and in order to do something like this she most definatly had something drastically wrong with her.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Meredith Walsh:
I agree with Michaela. The parents are supposed to protect their kids from danger not bring it upon them.

    ReplyDelete
  50. @Tyler.....She did kill herself in front of her children. She drove the van into the water with them in the care with her.

    ReplyDelete
  51. A good picture to capture the essence of this story would be a picture of the memorial of the people killed next to the Hudson River

    ReplyDelete
  52. I also agree with Xinrui, this woman was obviously crying out for help but no one heard her and of course the father was no where to be found. All this poor woman needed was some help to raise her four children.

    ReplyDelete
  53. A picture that I would have taken is when the child escapes from the water and tries to find help. It shows how lost the child must have felt.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Alright guys we know the women is crazy there's no need to judge here....

    ReplyDelete
  55. If I was to take a picture from anytime in the video I would definatly choose the memorial at the very end with the white teddy bear in a plastic bag. and my caption would say: Local family dies after their mom drives her mini van into the hudson river and now their is a small memoral which was place one week? from the incident

    ReplyDelete
  56. I agree with jess on the picture part.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Jon, I'm pretty sure it said she was depressed.

    ReplyDelete
  58. THsi is newsworthy, because it shows what can pull a person to there breaking point. WHat i think is wrong is that the father left his kids for her problem. She tried her best, but couldnt take it. I think that she should of asked for help from a family member than taking those actions. I just feel bad for the kid who had surrived,..

the picture that i would pick would be of the the car going out of the water. or a picture of the kids. (like memory of them.)

    ReplyDelete
  59. It seems like she picked the place to kill her and her children carefully. The young ones would not be old enough to understand that they need to get out of the car quickly and by themselves (except for the ten year old), the place where she drove off was usually filled with people, but was recently closed for renovations, and she drove off when it was just getting dark, where it is hard to see and roads are less populated. She clearly planned this out.

    ReplyDelete
  60. i agree with Tyge. I do not think this woman was crazy she was just overly stressed out

    ReplyDelete
  61. YOu would also turn crazy if your a single mother of 4 young kids lonely and depressed.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I agree with michaela, she needed help with her children and obviously help otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I agree with Tyler. It affects so many people. I feel like she didn't think of the consequences.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yeah i agree with tyler, if i was in her position and had a kid at 15 and progressed from there id be depressed and psychotic too, probably because i dont want kids period, but still....this is some serious "Teen Mom" stuff. she should have been on mtv

    ReplyDelete
  65. I agree with Ryan. The location seems very specific and symbolic.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I agree with Ryan about the location.

    ReplyDelete
  67. for what ryan wrote. maybe driving her kids into the water was an mistake. like yoiu wrote it was dark. you cant really see well. Also when you are really upset the one thing your not going to do is think the best. She might of been just driving to vent and go home. she might of not planed to kill her ki9ds and herself. but im not saying it likely
